Speaking during an exclusive interview at his Karen home in Nairobi on Saturday, Kalonzo said the church has done so little to ensure that the fight against corruption bears fruits.

He argued that leaders of different churches have not been firm on corruption, yet the vice is derailing the nation from achieving vision 2030.

Kalonzo recalled days of the vocal clergymen who could not sit back and watch leaders loot what belongs to the common mwananchi.

“The Church is the salt of the earth and the Bible says we discard salt when it loses its taste. It is the conscience of the country. You remember the 80s and 90s during the days of the likes of the vibrant Kipsang Muge, Bishop David Gitari and Henry Okullu when the church would issue pastoral letters," Kalonzo said.

He said the Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has been very vocal on matters of runaway graft, adding that time has come for the church to wake up and speak for the oppressed.

Kalonzo said there is no way the President will make this nation corruption free unless he is supported by the church and other organizations which mean well for the people.
