A section of locals in Huruma ward, Eldoret town are up in arms after an assistant chief in the area allegedly sacked 10 village elders for being too told.
The locals led by the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Chomba are now calling for the sacking of the assistant chief whom they also accuse of colluding with criminals.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Wednesday, Chomba claimed the village elders were sacked not because they were too old but because they did not agree to the chief's involvement with criminal elements.
Locals now want the village elders reinstated in a bid to help restore sanity in the area.
"Since the village elders were sacked, there has been increased levels of insecurity and the assistant chief has also become the protector of illegal brewers and drug peddlers," claimed Chomba.
The MCA also called for the transfer of officers at Shauri Administration Police (AP) camp and Baharini police station. He accused the security officers of laxity and working with the assistant chief of protecting those involved in illegal businesses.
“We want the officers transferred with immediate effect for sanity to prevail since we cannot just sit down and watch while the lives of our children and residents are at stake. CS Matiangi must do something,” insisted Chomba, a Jubilee MCA.
