As a way of improving education standards, the County Government of Nakuru has commissioned 350 teachers in Early Childhood Development and Education centres.
Under the new development, 939 centres across the county will benefit.
Speaking during orientation at St Mary’s Girls school in Nakuru East, Deputy Governor Dr Erick Korir said the county is committed to providing safe learning environment for the pupils.
“Our objective is to ensure that children access quality and relevant pre-primary education services for them to get appropriate competencies to realize their full potential,” stated Korir.
Nakuru County has had only 10 teachers employed by the government since independence.
County CEC for Education, ICT and e-Government Mr Raymond Komen said the County hopes to at least have two teachers per school.
“Nakuru County government plans to recruit at least 1,660 ECDE teachers in the next five years to fill the gap” he said.
According to the CEC, County is working on a school feeding program that will see pupils remain in school.
