Doctors in Kisumu County have resumed duties after reaching an agreement with the county leadership.
The medics who have been on strike since Friday, on Monday signed a return to work formula, under the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) umbrella.
The strike ended after a three day continuous engagement between KMPDU bosses and the county leadership, before KMPDU Nyanza Chair Kevin Osuri announced a deal.
"We ask all doctors in the county to resume work immediately so that health and provision of health services can continue uninterrupted,” he said as quoted by Standard.
The doctors have been pushing for the realisation of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed between them and the county previously.
They also want study leaves, and payment of their National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover and statutory deductions , with Osuri expressing hope that these demands will be realized to prevent future strikes.
Acting Kisumu County health executive Nelly Achar confirmed the agreement, adding that the county public service board, will ensure that the deal is honoured.
“With the cost element we have factored in money to ensure that we honour this agreement,”he said.
