A driver has been blamed for causing an accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway that involved Chief Justice David Maraga and his wife.

The CJ’s car collided with another one as it headed to Nakuru.

Police said Jonathan Kigen, the driver of the other vehicle, is to blame for the failure to give way.

“On reaching the location of the accident he (the CJ’s driver) collided head-on with m/v reg. No. KWW 502 Toyota DX being driven by one Jonathan Kigen who joined the main highway from the feeder road without giving way,” a police report said.

Police described the accident as‘serious injury road traffic’.The accident saw the CJ suffer a head injury and his wife neck injuries.

The two cars involved were taken to Nakuru Police StationMaraga thanked Kenyans and President Uhuru Kenyatta over support after the accident.

"I am particularly grateful to Uhuru on whose instructions we were airlifted to Nairobi. After thorough investigations the doctors confirmed that we suffered only minor injuries and are fine," Maraga said on Sunday.
