Farmers in Uasin Gishu have been sensitized on the use of digital skills to enhance the marketing of their farm commodities and acquire agricultural technical skills from online platforms.
The training session was sponsored by Google digital skills.
Speaking to the press during the training, Google digital skills program community manager Khadija Abdul advised farmers to embrace new technology and internet information so as to facilitate their farming activities.
“Farmers should take their game up by adopting ways of making agribusiness flourish by listing their types of the commodities and identifying their localities to be easily accessed by the consumers,” noted Khadijah who said that the Google search engines were majorly established to register elite youth who want to venture into microbusiness activities.
Khadijah said the online platform will effectively foster agricultural production in the region by moving from subsistence to commercial farming and challenged farmers .to maximize it through the Google search engines which besides advertising also promotes the products.
For the individuals to access services design by Google, one should have the Gmail address to create an account which will contain particulars including the business name, contacts of the owner, location of the business, description and the nature of the business entity.
“The accounts bearing the specific names depending on the variety of products, be farm commodities or boutiques or any other products, subscribers are able to post pictures of the items. internet users will able to get adverts popping while using the internet and those get interested with the commodities are linked to the sites for more information and making actions by purchasing,” Khadijah noted.
