Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o can rise to the position of Deputy President if he plays his cards right ahead of the 2022 elections.
So far, Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi have expressed their interest in going for the top seat in the country.
If Nyong'o wants to ascend to the number two position, he should align himself to Senator Moi, who has been making inroads in the region.
The Senator recently toured Homabay County in what was seen as a political strategy ahead of 2022.
Senator Moi is aware that to ascend to the top seat, he needs the backing of the Nyanza region, and there is no better way to get its support other than settling on one of the region's seasoned politicians as his deputy.
Having been a lecturer, Member of Parliament, Secretary General of the ODM party, Minister, Senator, and now Governor, Prof Nyong’o is a man with immense political experience in Nyanza.
His experience cannot be matched by his peers in the region, in the name of Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, Migori’s Okoth Obado and Homabay’s Cyprian Awiti.
Consensus among many is that he is doing a good job as the second Kisumu Governor.
This is the man Moi should be angling to pick as his running mate, and with the blessings of Odinga, and his ODM brigade, Moi and Nyong’o looks a marketable ticket in Nyanza.
It must be noted that a few weeks ago, Nyong’o said he only wants to serve as Kisumu Governor for two terms before he retires, but things quickly change in politics.
