Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho will have to face the slow-moving traffic jam along Mombasa-Malindi road.
This is after the new directives on road clearance from Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai omitted governors from the VIP lists.
Mombasa-Malindi road has been experiencing a heavy traffic jam at around the Nyali Bridge, especially during peak hours.
Through the bridge is the only way by road, Mombasa Governor can reach his home. The bridge connects major residential areas with Mombasa Island, including Bamburi, Nyali, Kisauni, among others.
Governor Joho who stays in Nyali, has been enjoying the VIP rule to bypass the traffic jam along the bridge, and with new rules, he will have no otherwise but face it.
However, Joho can still get the same privileges on occasions, specifically special cases, by seeking authority from Traffic officer in Mombasa region.
"In light of streamlining traffic flow in major cities, I hereby direct guidelines concerning entitlement and privileges on the clearance of vehicles for VIP on roads and highways. Any other vehicle will require authority by Traffic Officer in charge in a certain region on special cases," read a statement by Mutyambai.
Other key personalities who also missed on the VIP list included Chief Justice David Maraga and senators.
The directives concluded that any Government vehicle found violating traffic regulations will be arrested and charged in a court of law.
