Former Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale has accused ANC and Ford Kenya party leaders Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula respectively of abandoning the Luhya community.
Khalwale’s sentiments stem from the absence of the two Nasa co-principals during a joint visit of Luo Nyanza by President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga on Thursday.
Deputy President William Ruto also accompanied the two leaders during the historic visit.
“Their absence means the two have abandoned their role in leading the community,” said the former senator when contacted.
In March this year, the two Nasa co-principals asked Luhyas to unite against Raila should he declare his bid for the presidency in 2022.
They observed that the ODM party leader has ditched the community by allowing Wetangula’s ouster as the Leader of Majority in the Senate.
Wetangula at the time said they would collapse ANC and Ford Kenya parties to form one strong party that will produce a presidential candidate -- Mudavadi - in 2022.
On Friday, Wetangula said that though he supports the handshake, there should be more reforms in the governance system which will be realised through a referendum.
"President Uhuru we laud you and support the handshake. It has brought a much-needed lull. However, for lasting peace, tranquillity and enduring unity for our nation, the answer lies in institutional reforms including a referendum on governance issues," he tweeted.
Efforts to reach the two Nasa leaders were futile as calls went unanswered.
