A section of Rift Valley leaders has been challenged to stop politicking and focus on solving problems facing the electorate.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) director of communications Philip Etale asked the politicians to concentrate on addressing challenges of Rift Valley farmers instead of using their time to attack the peace deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Mentioning Deputy President William Ruto's close allies; MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Caleb Kositany (Soy) and their Marakwet East counterpart Kangogo Bowen, the ODM boss noted it was planting season and requested them to prioritise on farmers' needs.
"Hons. Sudi, Kositany, Kangogo et'al, forget about the hand shake; it is planting season and farmers are struggling to get fertiliser and seeds. The price of fertiliser is quite scaring. Kindly use the airtime to fight for the farmers' rights. A humble request this is...thanks," Etale tweeted on Thursday.
For the past few weeks, the MPs have been using every opportunity to hit out at Uhuru whom they accuse of 'betraying' Kalenjins following his truce with Raila.
They have repeatedly claimed that the handshake and renewed fight on corruption was a secret strategy to scuttle Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
Consequently, the politicians have threatened to ditch Jubilee should Uhuru fail to come out and address their grievances.
"We want to remind the President that Rift Valley voted for him overwhelmingly, more than any other region. Why has he sidelined us?" Sudi was recently quoted by Daily Nation.
