Ngilu went into historical books as the first woman to contest for Presidency in 1997.

She believed that women have what it took to lead this nation and faced retired, President Daniel Arap Moi.

During her campaigns, Ngilu launched endless attacks against Moi.

She accused the then KANU leader of being corrupt.

 "You cannot touch or take anybody to court over corruption when you yourself are corrupt," Ngilu told journalists.

Born in 1952 in Mbooni, Makueni District, Ngilu is a true definition of beauty with brains.

Having studied at Alliance Girls, Ngilu proved that her destiny lay solely in her hands.

After completing her secondary education, she went to Kenya Institute of Administration where she pursued a secretarial course.  

The governor then worked as former Central Bank of Kenya's Governor Duncan Ndegwa’s personal secretary.

Ngilu joined politics in 1992, she was elected as the Kitui Central's Member of Parliament in the same year on a Democratic Party (DP) ticket.

She enjoyed a stellar political career before she was elected the Kitui Governor in 2017.

Today, she is one of the most influential women in Kenya.
