When you meet him at his kiosk in Kipkaren estate in the outskirts of Eldoret town, you can hardly notice that Douglas Mudhiora holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a First Class Honours from Kisii University.
No sooner had he graduated in December 2017 than he commenced applying for jobs with big hopes of landing a white colour job in the media industry.
However, things did not turn out as he had expected.
“I dropped hundreds of job applications both online and by hand delivery but I never received positive feedback. I initially thought that with my First Class Honours it will be easy to land a job but the reality was so shocking that I could not bear with it,” lamented the 31-year-old father of two.
Mudhiora told Hivisasa that it took him a bold step to decide to be a vegetable vendor.
“Since I was becoming unable to sustain myself and my family in town, I borrowed Sh5,000 from a friend and went to the market in town and bought tomatoes, onions and sukuma wiki worth that amount,” he said.
The university graduate noted that at first, it was difficult but as time went by, he got used to it and his business has since grown and it is not a surprise it is one of the well-known grocery shops in Kipkaren estate.
However, Mudhiora is still optimistic that his journalistic dreams are valid and that one day he will get a job, excel in the media industry and pursue a Masters course in Journalism.
