It is apparent that aspiring candidates for the 2022 presidential race have 'silently' started campaigns ahead of time. Among the most likely contestants to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta is his deputy, William Samoei Ruto.
Seemingly, DP Ruto will have an uphill task when picking his running mate when the official campaign period comes. As it is, the pressure is steadily mounting on him to pick someone from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region. Amid the pressure, Ruto should endeavour to pick a lady running mate to back his presidential dream.
As a matter of fact, female politicians have proved competent especially on matters leadership. For instance, lady politicians as Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru have proved to the nation that what a man can do, the women can also do it better.
That governor Joyce Laboso of Bomet beat Isaac Ruto further reveals that women are steadily gaining influence and popularity among the electorate.
Away from politics, several female Cabinet Secretaries in the Jubilee government who are non-politicians have brilliantly delivered their mandates without hitches. Defence CS Rachel Omamo and Sports counterpart Amina Mohammed among others are living testimonies that women can, indeed, deliver if granted leadership positions.
With this in mind, DP Ruto should just make a difference and pick a lady running mate come 2022. If he does this and becomes lucky to win in the bid, he will definitely get into the books of history having made a difference in the country's political scene.
