Kikuyu morning radio queen Waithira Muithirania made her debut comeback on the airwaves this Monday 10, where she rejoined Inooro FM where she had worked since the Royal Media Services-owned Kikuyu radio station launched in 2003.
Waithira who was hosting the station's breakfast show (Hagaria) had resigned ahead of 2017 General elections to go and vie for Muranga Woman Rep seat.
She would, however, miss the seat by a whisker after the incumbent Sabina Chege rode on Jubilee Party's popularity in the county to a slim victory.
Since then, there have been frequent calls on Muithirania from a large section of her fanbase to rejoin radio which she was hesitant to do apparently because she had made it clear during her campaigns that she wouldn't go back to the airwaves even if she lost.
But as fate would have it, the surprise decamping of the humorous Man Simo-Katta from Inooro FM to the rival Kameme FM would force the RMS management to recall her perhaps by all means as the impact of losing its popular drive (CuaCua) presenters was simply unfathomable.
While Muithirania's comeback on the radio has been celebrated by many who missed her on-air authoritative voice and thorough understanding of issues on focus and her audience too, many, especially on social media, feel that it was a flop on the management side to give Waithera the station's drive show alongside upcoming comedian, Karwimbo.
The argument by the seemingly keen Kikuyu radio listeners is that the radio station's move would see it lose both the prime time breakfast and drive listeners to Kameme FM.
A radio audience rating poll conducted by GeoPoll for the first quarter of 2019 showed that Inooro FM's breakfast show (Hagaria) was trailing Kameme FM's rival show (Arahuka).
Inooro FM's 'CuaCua' would, nevertheless, beat Kameme FM's drive show (Humuka) hands down.
Therefore, with Man Simo and Katta steering Kameme FM's 'Humuka' the feeling among many is that the Muithirania-Karwimbo duo is no match for the new 'Humuka' crew which has built a loyal evening listenership since their days at KBC's Coro FM where they still hosted the station's drive show (Kumiria).
As such, for Inooro FM to strike a balance in both its prime time shows, critics argue that the station management ought to have Muithirania alongside Jeff Kuria in the morning while Nyoxx Wa Katta steers 'CuaCua' together with Karwimbo.
This would, however, have Nyoxx competing for eardrums directly with her husband from the other side of town.
Whether this can be a more viable option for the station than its current line-up, we can only sit back and wait.
