The incident happened in Sidok, Alego Usonga sub-county, where the Toyota Prado vehicle hit the form three student of Sidok Secondary School, killing her on the spot.

County Deputy Speaker Andericus Oduor and his driver who were inside the car were forced to flee from the scene to avoid the wrath of the angry mob.

The incident has been confirmed by Speaker George Okode who acknowledged the girl's death and the loss the county had incurred courtesy of the car destruction.

He added that the police have since taken up the issue and investigations are ongoing.

"It is unfortunate that a student has lost her life and our vehicles burnt. We hope the on-going investigations by the police will reveal what happened," he was quoted by the Standard.

The incident comes amid troubles in the Homa Bay County assembly pitting the Speaker and County Assembly Clerk Felix Ondwero.

Ondwero has since been sent to compulsory leave by the Speaker over allegations of illegally withdrawing Ksh3 million from the county accounts.

But Olwero has claimed that the Speaker is out to settle personal scores and has since begun plans to have one of his relatives take over.
