A police officer is nursing serious injuries at a Murang'a hospital after three robbers attacked him and stole his loaded gun.

Morris Mwiti , the officer who was attacked, was on duty as a traffic officer at railway crossing point near Mathioya River along the Murang’a-Sagana road when the incident  happened.

He was ambushed together with his female colleague at around 4.30 pm.

The female police officer was forced to escape from the scene when Mwiti was overpowered and the thugs took his gun.

The attackers made away using a motorbike that had been hidden in a bush near the scene of crime.

Police officers launched a man hunt for the robbers in the hope of recovering the pistol stolen from the officer.

Murang’a East Deputy Police Commander Alexander Muasya confirmed that investigation into the incident had commenced.

The police commander also pointed out that Mwiti was responding positively to treatment.

Members of the public have also been urged to help in the investigation by cooperating with police officers and issuing information that may lead to the arrest of the three robbers.

“We appeal to the public to volunteer information which could lead to recovery of the fire arm,” he said.
