Wajir residents have been urged not to panic as the county government battles to contain measles outbreak.

According to Wajir County Preventive Health Deputy Director Adan Hassan, two people have died as a result of measles since the viral infection was reported in September last year.

The county official further says that 138 people are admitted and receiving treatment in various hospitals.

He said that the patients are responding well to treatment.

Speaking to journalists at the Wajir county headquarters on Wednesday, Mr Hassan said that a campaign to sensitise the public on the viral disease in ongoing.

He said that the county has partnered with the national government to battle the disease.

He added that a vaccination campaign is already going on across Wajir and neighboring areas.

“There is no need for alarm because we are working to contain the spread of the viral disease,” he said.

The health official listed Hadado, Danaba, Qarsa, Bulla, and Bute as among the areas most hit by the viral disease.

Measles, a viral disease is among the leading causes of death among children.
