Over 200 eye patients will undergo free screening and surgery at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) during the eye camp that started on Wednesday.
According to the MTRH CEO, Dr Wilson Aruasa said the eye camp has been sponsored by the Lions Club in conjunction with the hospital.
“The over 200 patients from the region will benefit from free screening and surgery where no single cent will be paid for the same,” said Dr. Aruasa at MTRH during the launch of the eye camp.
He noted that during a similar camp last year, 1,700 patients were screened and 190 surgeries were done.
“As a Hospital, we have reduced the cost of eye surgery from the current Sh7,000 to Sh5,500 which is sponsored by the Lions Club. I call on all patients with any eye defect to avail themselves at the hospital so that they can be screened thereafter surgery done,” added the MTRH boss.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago lauded the Lions’ club for their exemplary work especially in the provision of critical support to alleviating eye problems countrywide.
The Chief guest J. P. Singh, International Director of Lions Club noted that they will continue supporting the less fortunate in the society through health care provision.
