A family in Bondo, Siaya County cannot come to an agreement with the police over the mysterious death of their 8-year-old daughter Yvonne Akinyi, a standard Two pupil at a Rambugu Primary School in Rarieda.
According to the Nation, the family claims that the police are trying to protect the driver who allegedly ran over their daughter at Ajigo, along the Kisumu-Bondo Highway on Friday.
They claim that the police set free the driver and his lorry after his arrest in the alleged hit and run saga.
"We have information that the driver was arrested but later released. His vehicle was also released. What we want is just but justice," said Stephen Obiero, the girl's father.
The concerned police officers, however, are of the opinion that the matter was nowhere near a hit and run case and that the suspect identified as Titus Agwanda reported the matter at a local police station.
"The driver reported the matter at Ndori patrol base," Rarieda regional Police Commander Thomas Sunguti told the Nation.
Agwanda, the driver, has although denied being aware of the case.
This is despite the police officers assuring that he had reported the incident at the police station under OB: 6/28/12/2018.
The girl was confirmed dead at the Jaramogi Oginga Hospital in Kisumu after being first attended to at the Bondo Hospital, reported the Nation.
