Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has said that he is not aware of any political interference in the ongoing probe of Idriss Mukhtar attempted murder.
Haji states that claims that political forces are swaying investigations and possible prosecution of top suspects in the case are false.
According to Haji, the investigation file on Mukhtar attempted murder is yet to be forwarded to him.
Responding to a letter by Mukhtar’s lawyer Charles Kanjama, Haji said that his office does not make decisions based on rumors.
The DPP said that he is waiting for the investigation file to make a decision.
“The investigation file is yet to be forwarded and as such my office cannot make a decision,” he said.
He asked the lawyer to stop making insinuations and rumors that are not backed by any evidence.
Mukhtar’s family has expressed fears over the manner in which the investigation is being conducted.
The family claims that there is evidence to arrest and charge Garissa governor Ali Korane and his brother Mohamed Bunow over the attempted murder.
Korane is among people who have been quizzed into the attempted murder.
He has denied any involvement.
Mukhtar survived an attempted assassination on August 19 and is battling for his life in Intensive Care Unit.
He was last week flown to India for specialized treatment.
