Villagers in Manga, Nyamira County are yet to come into terms after an elderly man eloped with his niece and married her as a second wife.
Locals said the man John Machoni, 56, eloped with his niece Zipporah Bonareri aged 24.
"Machoni started seducing Bonareri way back in 2016. Family members tried to warn them against the illicit love affair in vain. He eloped with her and has since rented a house in Kisii County's Jogoo area where they are living as husband and wife," said Haron Ondoro.
Mr. Ondoro said Machoni was dishing out money to Bonareri something that lured her into the relationship.
Lukas Omweri, an elder condemned Machoni for marrying his niece.
"It is an abomination for Machoni to marry his niece. He better divorce her before a calamity befalls in his family," said Omweri.
Area assistant chief, Dismas Ongoro confirmed the incident saying he was shocked when he received the news.
"I have known Machoni as a man who respected himself but, I was shocked to learn that he married his niece as a second wife. Such marriages will not be tolerated in my area of jurisdiction," he stated.
