The Court of Appeal decision on Thursday to uphold a High Court ruling that nullified the election of Cyprian Awiti as Homa Bay Governor adds onto the ODM politician's political woes.

The ruling which was delivered following a petition filed by former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga, will shape the region's political landscape for the next coming days, and may as well bring to an end Awiti's checkered political career.

For the man who came into the political limelight in 2013 and won the coveted gubernatorial seat on his first attempt, the road to recovery may be challenging considering he is facing a formidable opponent if he will not appeal the ruling in the Supreme Court.

So, what next for him? He may decide to go back to the ballot and test his popularity. But with claims of corruption within his government haunting him, he will surely be floored by Magwanga, an independent candidate. Not even the ODM popularity in the region will save him.

And whereas moving to Supreme Court may be an option, it looks unlikely that the apex court will overturn the previous rulings.

For now, the former Governor's political career may be as good as over.
