The gridlock was so bad that drivers were forced to switch off the engine.

In several cars, drivers and their passengers were spotted catching a nap.

In others, children were heard wailing after spending hours on the road leaving them hungry.

A police officer manning the route told this writer that there is always increased traffic along the highway on weekends.

"It is always jammed during weekends, but today is too much. Some rogue drivers overlapped and blocked all the clear ways, now they will sleep here," he said.

The officer said things got out of hand around 5:30 pm.

Among those stuck in the traffic was Molo MP Kuria Kimani.

The legislator was heading to Nairobi after attending a youth function in his constituency.

"If you have any intentions of traveling from Nakuru to Nairobi and vice versa, brace yourself for a satanic traffic near Delamere," Elijah Njoroge, the MP's Personal Assistant posted on his wall.
