Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr.Fred Matiangi has on Monday 11th January met the new National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials at Harambee House.
The meeting comes amidst a crackdown in the board after the menace of cloning of vehicles number plates in the country which partly aided in the deadly terror attack at 14 Riverside.
A vehicle the terrorists used had a similar registration number as that of a vehicle impounded by the police in Kitengela.
Speaking at the meeting, the interior Cabinet Secretary said the country has the capacity to achieve and sustain safe roads with nearly zero deaths contrary to what has been bedevilling the sector for many years now.
"As a country, we have the capacity to achieve and sustain safe roads with near-zero deaths," stated Matiang'i.
The CS also affirmed that there is no room for mistakes again at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and that the government through the ministry of interior and transport will give the board total support to execute their mandate.
This, the CS said will be a way to institutionalize better road safety measures in the country.
"There is no more room for mistakes at NTSA and we will give the new board our full support as we endeavour to institutionalize better road safety measures in the country," affirmed Matiang'i.
Dr.Fred Matiangi also challenged the board to make amends for improprieties reported in the recent past.
He said the mistakes have not only eaten into Kenya's overall revenue collection target but also prejudiced national security for the past years.
The interior CS tasked the revamped NTSA with ensuring a reduction of traffic-related deaths by 50 per cent this year and ultimately sustain near zero deaths in the country.
