Amani National Congress  (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, was one of the parents whose family members were held up in the crossfire when terrorist descended on DusitD2 Hotel complex in 14 Riverside Drive, Westland, Nairobi, on Tuesday, January 15.

On Tuesday, it was established that Michael was the ANC leader's son who was rescued alongside several others a few hours after news about the DusitD2 attack hit the airwaves. 

Thanks to a swift response from a multi-agency security team which arrived at the smoky and frightening scene in a matter of minutes, lives of more than 700 civilian were saved.

There were a few dramatic moments during the high -level rescue operation which involved the meticulous frisking of every individual as security officers gradually closed in on the assailants inside the seven-story building. 

Mudavadi's time to be screened for any dangerous weapon finally but none of the security men appeared to recognise the son of Mudavadi even as he repeatedly told them his name.

"Mimi ni Mudavadi (I am Mudavadi )...Mudavadi mmmh Mudavadi," a petrified Mike mumbled while handing his bag to the police for the mandatory inspections. 

At the time, he was holding his phone as he attempted probably call the family to tell them he was safe.

But as soon as his bag was frisked by gun-wielding police officers, Mike and another man who was rescued made an almost fatal mistake, they dashed towards the exit of DusitD2 prompting police to that the be stopped. 

"Wewe,wewe,hawa wawili wanaenda wapi?! Hawa wawili wakuje hapa! (Hey, hey, where those running to, come here)," shouted several police officers.

The young and hunky University of Brighton graduate who for personal reasons prefer to keep a low profile was eventually cleared.

According to Khalwale whose daughter was still trapped inside the besieged DusitD2 building by then, Mike was safely evacuated at around 5 p.m.

The ex-senator's daughter, Zinzi, was rescued by GSU officers at around 3.20 a.m, after several hours of being trapped in the melee.
