The 60th National Drama and Film festivals kicked off in style at Kibabii University in Bungoma County in which several classes were performed graced by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) and the Ministry of education officials.
In the secondary schools competitions,Tartar girls from West Pokot County were the curtain raisers whose performance was tantalizing with an amazing talent showcased.
Taking to their twitter handle to acknowledge the vast and diverse cultures,the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) said creativity should be used to impart positive education to the current generation.
"Creative expressions such as drama and film should be used to challenge young minds into being responsible adults. Entertainment should not be the sole objective of the Festival." read the tweet.
Opportunity comes with much responsibilities in the today's life.Therefore, nurturing talents amongst our young people will have an impact in our society now and the future of our children.
KFCB is this years sponsor of the National Drama festival which has attracted over twenty five thousand participants ranging from higher learning institutions,secondary and primary school participants.
However,KFCB maintains that to reduce the rot in the society,the government should ensure proper and frequent use of art.
"Art can be used to redefine the misleading concepts that plague the youth today,
By engaging in ventures such as the KNDFF, the Board hopes to challenge learners and the youth in general to reflect on moral responsiblity," the tweet read further
"Art can be used to deal with the social ills ailing the country. This is by shaming practices such as corruption, dishonesty, disrespect and lack of decency." they reiterated
Kibabii University who plays host to the event will perform on Thursday as per the schedule.
Today's performance saw Kakamega School,Kirinyaga University and Tartar brought the function to a standstill with their world class cultural showcasing.
