The party was initially divided on the newly designed currency, which depicts the image of founding president Jomo Kenyatta's statue on the Kenyatta International Conversion Center (KICC), but gave an official direction on Tuesday.

Weda now claims that Raila might have reached out at the Party National Chair John Mbadi to embrace the changes, despite his (Mbadi) initial opposition, leading to the announcement.

He said that this could be having something to do with Raila's current good working relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta, and might have feared that the confusion in ODM could sabotage his relationship with the president.

However, the commentator noted that Mbadi's initial stand that the printing of the money should exclude the image of Kenyatta was good, in an interview on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation on Wednesday morning.

"John Mbadi was right initially, but Baba (Raila) might have called and said, "In whose house are you?" And Mbadi said "Yours." In ODM, when Baba says jump you as to how high," he said.

The notes were first opposed by Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, who was seconded by party secretary-general Edwin Sifuna and Mbadi who doubles up as the Suba South MP.

A separate team led by National Assembly Minority Whip and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed emerged to dismiss Mbadi's team's concerns on Monday.
