It was joy and big celebrations for the University of Eldoret student after winning Sh150,00 in the Wednesday World Cup semi-final match between England and Croatia played at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
Wesley Kiptum, a first-year student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics said he placed a bet of Sh10,000 on Mario Mandzukic to score in the extra time after watching the match go into the extra time of play.
And it only took a 19-minute wait for the student to break into wild celebrations to the shock of his fellow students when Mandzukic struck with a well-taken low shot.
The student later admitted that he had mistakenly placed on Mandzukic to score as he had wanted to place on Harry Kane given that at a time he placed on his bet, England was playing well with Kane on numerous chances to score.
With the win, Kiptum said he wouldn't have held any grudge over Mandzukic had he not scored because it was his mistake.
The 20-year old now says he would back on Croatia to win the World Cup on Sunday's final with the hope that his star player, Mario Mandzukic appears in the score sheet once again.
"It's miracle that I won the money. I wrongly placed on Mandzukic to score instead of Kane and on checking out, I couldn't believe. Thank you Mandzukic... thanks so much," said the joyous Kiptum.
