Speaking at the Strathmore Business School (sbs) on Tuesday, the head of state directed that a review be done to ensure the charges come down.

“The cost of electricity has truly gone up. I direct the CS Energy to review electricity charges in the next 1 month with a view to reducing cost,” Uhuru said.

At the moment, Kenyans are paying Sh100 for every four units given by Kenya power. Interestingly, there is a conflict of interest as the Kenyatta family has shares in Kenya Power.

According to Nation’s publication on May 2003, President Uhuru’s mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta is the fourth largest individual investor in Kenya Power.

“Kenya Power has listed Mama Ngina Kenyatta as its fourth largest individual investor, making the electricity distributor the only Nairobi bourse-listed company bearing her name on the shareholder list,” the paper wrote.

Mama Ngina Kenyatta is said to be owning a whopping 2.2 million shares in the company.
