Serani secondary school is a government-sponsored boy’s school where Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho schooled.
This day school is found in Mbaraki, Kizingo sub-location, Ganjoni location, Kisauni Constituency. The institution is along Serani road opposite Mvita Tennis Court.
The institution was established as an Arab boys school in 1922 to educate Muslim boys.
Its population is averagely 500 students with their motto being 'Elimu ni nguvu’.
Unfortunately, its day school status could be one of the reasons it produces poor or average results in national exams.
The school does not have a playing ground. Boys who are interested in games share playing field with Serani primary school.
Surprisingly, the institution has produced several national figures in sports. Geoffrey Osama and Abdi Simba, who played for the national team, are products of Serani secondary school.
Besides Orange Democratic (ODM) deputy party leader Hassan Joho, Serani produced Robert Mambo who is a former captain to the national men’s football team, Harambee Stars.
Joho’s education was questioned as he was trying to defend his gubernatorial slot in 2017.
Luckily, the school principal confirmed that indeed the county chief was part of the institution, and managed to score a D- in KCSE.
