Students at Moi University main campus residing at the hostel held a demonstration on Monday night over power outage at hostel L.
The students walked from Hostel L which houses male students to the university’s administration block demanding for the power outage to be addressed.
“We have been patient enough. We have been staying without power at the hostel for almost a month now. We can neither cook nor study at night,” a student who requested to remain anonymous stated.
Some of the influential student leaders at the Kesses-based campus had to intervene to calm down the escalating situation.
“I talked to the student and was able to cool them down. The administration cares about the well-being of the students, and it is for that reason that they are doing all they can to resolve the problem at the hostel. I request comrades to be patient because the fault will be fixed soon,” former secretary general of Moi University Students Organization (MUSO) Moses Tisa stated during a phone interview with hivisasa.com on Monday night.
The power blackout at the hostel has lasted for almost three weeks due to an electrical fault. It has however been confirmed that Kenya Power will fix the fault in the course of this week.
