Speaking on Sunday, the lawmaker hit out at the county and national governments for doing very little to salvage the people of Baringo from the worsening starvation.

She also bashed the two entities for doing absolutely nothing to prevent the situation ahead of time, considering that the county is known to experience drought each year.

She questioned the county government's inability to buy food from neighbouring counties and store it in the three National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) silos in the county to prevent such scenarios, despite having the funds.

She proposed a better use of the silos if they cannot be used for their rightful purpose, saying that they are now better used to house school children and be converted to dormitories.

"Hizi silos kama haziwezi weka chakula kisaidie wakati was njaa basi zigeuzwe ziwe vyumba vya malazi vya wanafunzi (if the silos cannot keep food let them be converted to dormitories)," said the leader.

She was speaking on Debe La Citizen Show on Radio Citizen on Saturday evening.

Baringo is ranked among the worst hit counties, the other one being Turkana and has lately been depending on relief food and donations.

Initially, there were reports of starvation-related deaths, claims the government has faulted.
