The 12 were among passengers in an 18-seater matatu headed to Nakuru when their vehicle collided head-on with a Nairobi-bound lorry.

The fatal crash took place at the Kimende blackspot.

Witnesses said one of the vehicles was overtaking and poor visibility might have caused the crash.
