The driver of a Nissan is said to have lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the Market stalls after feeling drowsiness leading to the death of one passenger and himself.

Maseno OCS K. Langat confirmed that the two have been taken to the mortuary at Jaramogi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

There were no injuries recorded during the accident.

The incident comes barely two weeks after another accident involving two lorries and a motorbike claimed two lives near Maseno.

Maseno residents have urged the relevant authorities to look into the road network near the Maseno University area as the number of accidents is continuing to rise.

"Something needs to be done. These accidents will soon take students' lives. One of us was recently killed by a trailer near River-ridge. Police said they will find the driver of the killer trailer but nothing has ever happened," said David Maloba who studies at Maseno University.

He added that the busy Kisumu-Busia Road is constantly used by heavy trucks moving goods to and from Western Kenya and Uganda, making the narrow road risky.
