The former Prime minister is expected to lead various guests in celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the death his father, the first Vice President of the Republic of Kenya, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

According to Raila’s elder brother Oburu Oginga, the celebrations being held in Kisumu, this will be a way of doing things differently since the event is always held in at Jaramogi’s home in Bondo, Siaya County.

“The family decided to hold the celebrations in Kisumu since Jaramogi — the country’s first Vice President — was very instrumental in the development and rise of the city,” he told Citizen Digital.

He said several activities have been lined up from Saturday, before the main event on Sunday at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground.

Among the events is a public forum that will be set at Tom Mboya Labour College on Saturday, where historians and elders will give a history of Jaramogi's life, exhibitions of the Luo culture and a major interdenominational prayer at the ACK Church in Milimani on Sunday before the main event at the Jomo Kenya Sports Ground.

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who was born on October 1911 died on January 20, 1994, aged 82 years.
