On Wednesday August 8, former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero was arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) after an order from Noordin Mohamed Haji, Director of Public Prosecutions.
On Thursday August 9 in the evening, Kidero’s son, Ronald Kidero was also arrested under unclear circumstances.
According to sources, Ronald was arrested for selling adulterated fuel. He is believed to be associated with a certain petrol station along Kiambu Road.
He was taken in at the Central police station before being locked up at Gigiri police station where he spent the night.
“Someone complained that he fuelled in that petrol station and his car got spoilt. We are likely to charge him with malicious damage to property,” said the CID officer.
This was coincidental as Ronald’s father spent the second night in custody at the Integrity Center. This was due to delayed processing of the Sh2 million bail cash.
Kidero who had been charged alongside 8 others, denied the three cases of corruption against him.
His lawyer Tom Ojienda cautioned the judges to be careful with the case facing Kidero as his criminal counts were politicised.
