A section of students at Moi University main campus on Monday held a demonstration over missing marks and delayed releasing of results.
The students refused to go to classes and instead walked around the school chanting slogans of ‘No marks, No class’. What began as a small and peaceful demonstration quickly turned violent with a good number of the school property being destroyed.
Some of the students were literally forced to run for their lives.
The demonstrations were staged in different parts of the university including the Soweto area, academic highway, School of Education among others. The number of students who showed up for the demonstrations was also quite alarming.
Activities both in and around the Kesses-based institution were paralyzed during the period of the demo. The library which is usually opened from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm had to be closed earlier. The students residing inside the school were also forced to remain indoors due to the extremely violent nature of the demonstration.

Later on during the day, a memo from the office of the Vice Chancellor was released in response to the students’ demonstration.
The memo acknowledged and responded to some of the complaints raised by the students. The school administration however condemned the violence that was witnessed.
Consequently, all Bachelor of Education students were instructed to resume attendance of classes by signing nominal roll in their respective departments.
Nonetheless, activities at the institution seem to have resumed normalcy.
