Industrious Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i may have lied to Kenyans on Tuesday over the progress of DusitD2 terror attack operations if at all President Uhuru Kenyatta's remarks is anything to go by.
During the attack, Inspector General Joseph Boinet said, 21 people lost their lives while the five terrorists suspected to have invaded the building also died on spot.
"Of those who died, 16 were Kenyans, one American, one Briton and three others of different African countries," Boinet told the Standard, adding that 28 more were recuperating in different hospitals.
On Tuesday night, Matiang'i who addressed the media for the first time after the attack was reported, told the country that 'all floored had been secured and security officers were mopping up the building', a suggestion that terrorists had been killed.
But in his address on Tuesday, Uhuru confirmed that the last two attackers were killed minutes past Wednesday 10am, a contradiction to Matiang'i's earlier statement.
He said: "About an hour ago, our security officers ended the operation. During the process, 14 innocent lives were lost. They also managed to deal with all the attackers."
Security forces from the DCI are currently doing forensic investigations to establish how the attackers planned and executed the horrendous act.
