The family of former Garissa Finance Executive Idriss Mukhtar, who survived an attempted assassination on August 19 in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area, has dispelled rumors that it wants to negotiate with suspects to have the matter settled out of court.
The family through lawyer Charles Kanjama says that the claims being made online by some media outlets are false.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi on Tuesday, Kanjama said that the family will push to have the suspects charged in court and the matter conclude in the corridors of justice.
He denied claims that the family has met with some suspects linked to the attempted murder.
“The family has neither approached nor been approached by any person for negotiations into Idriss' attempted murder,” he said.
Kanjama said that the family will reject any attempts to have the matter settled out of court.
“The family is not interested in bloody money or any exchange to have the matter out of court,” he added.
Kanjama said that he has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji over what he terms as slow pace of investigations into the attempted murder.
Mukhtar survived an attempted assassination and is battling for his life in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Idriss who has a bullet lodged in his head was last week flown to India for specialised treatment.
Two suspects, Hussein Aden and Juliet Njoki, have been charged with the attempted murder.
Garissa Governor Ali Korane is among people who have been interrogated in connection to the attempted murder.
Korane has, however, denied any involvement in the attempted murder.
