Kisumu County league club Obugi FC has suffered a major blow after one of their players drowned in Singida, Nyando River.
The body of Gordon Ouma was on Thursday 4th found floating in a small thicket at Singida, Nyando River after a two days' search. The deceased is said to have drowned on Saturday morning while harvesting sand.
Speaking on phone with this writer, Obugi FC head coach John Kopiyo said that on Saturday 1st at around 9.30 am, he received several phone calls and text messages, all informing him about the demise of Gordon.
“I was not at home that Saturday morning but I started receiving calls and messages at around 9.30am all saying that Gordon is gone. Most texts reading…he went to harvest sand as he always does but by bad luck, he drowned,” said John Kopiyo.
He said the deceased drowned in the river that had swollen the previous night. K’Opiyo said a 10-year-old kid who accompanied the deceased to the river ran back home and reported the incident.
The deceased stayed with a friend in the outskirts of Ahero town but hails from Kochia in Homabay County.
