This follows the return of two commissioners, Margaret Mwachanya and Connie Nkatha who resigned in April, with the third one, Paul Kurgat expected to also appear on Monday.

But speaking on Radio Sauti ya Mwananchi's 'Cheche' on Saturday evening, Koigi claimed that the team is working under orders from some 'bigger' forces who have now recalled them.

He noted that their return is most likely related to the Building Bridges Initiative campaign led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, adding that the team has been recalled to work on a possible referendum.

"Walijiondoa maana waliambiwa waondoke na sasa wameambiwa warudi maana wanahitajika (they are openly working under instructions and are now needed back by their masters)," he said.

"Kurudi kwao huenda kunatokana na ile handshake na huenda kuna kura ya maoni itakayofuata ndio maana wanahitajika maana tume ilivyo sasa haina makamishna wa kutosha.

(Their return has everything to do with the handshake and the said referendum, as the commission cannot conduct that due to the shortage of commissioners)," said Koigi.

This, however, follows claims of IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati having reportedly ordered the exchange of locks of their office doors to deny them access on Monday.
