Governor Ali Bunow Korane has assented to two crucial bills that were passed by the County Assembly last week.

The two bills, County Finance Bill 2018 and County Water Management Bill 2018, are now expected to boost county's revenue collection through improved service delivery.

While assenting to the Finance Bill, the governor revealed that his government was committed to providing an enabling environment for the business community while ensuring the county gets its fair share in terms of tax from land rates among other sectors.

"The bill provides for legislation relating to various county property rates, entertainment tax and other user charges (fees, charges, rents and rates) and for other matters incidental thereto," Korane stated.

On the Water Management Bill, the county boss said it will mean an end to the perennial water shortages at it provides for the establishment of a new Water and Sewerage Services Corporation to replace the defunct GAWASCO.

"I assented to Garissa County Water Management Bill 2018. The bill is a legislative framework for the management of water that provides for water use rights including priority of use; managing of Water Users Associations; establishment of Water & Sewerage Services Corporation," Korane added.
