Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has hit out at his Siaya counterpart James Orengo over his participation in the ongoing case involving Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
Orengo is the lead lawyer in Mwilu’s corruption case which also includes many other legal representatives, a team reported to include over 30 counsels.
Speaking on Radio Jambo Saturday morning, Mwaura questioned Orengo’s move, terming it a blow to the ongoing war on graft co-led by his party leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He termed it unfortunate that the lawmaker is instead of fighting graft as expected by Kenyans he is defending suspects.
‘’Inakuwaje mtu anayetegemewa kusaidia wananchi kupigana na ufisadi yuko kortini akipigania wafisadi. Hiyo ni kujichanganya kwa sababu mkubwa wake wa chama anaunga mkono vita dhidi ya ufisadi. (He is contradicting himself. He is expected to fight against corruption and not for the corrupt),’’ said Mwaura.
He advised Orengo to hand over the case to other neutral persons, pointing out that there are more other good lawyers who can take over from him.
‘’Huenda yeye ni wakili mzuri lakini inafaa awaachie wengine kesi hiyo (he is a good lawyer but should let the case be handled by other persons),’’ added Mwaura.
Orengo’s team which is heavily made up of opposition politicians also includes Homabay lawmaker Peter Kaluma, Mbita parliamentarian Millicent Odhiambo and their Makueni counterpart Dan Maanzo.
