Nakuru County is proof that women can be elected into positions of power if they prove to have leadership qualities.
As women MPs clamour for the passing of the Gender Bill claiming women are disadvantaged in the race for elective politics, these MPs suggest otherwise.
Senator Susan Kihika
The daughter of veteran politician Kihika Kimani whitewashed her competitors in the race for Nkauru senator.
Kihika beat all the other contestants who were men in the race.
These included seasoned politicians like Koigi wa Wamwere. Others were Mark Mwithaga and lawyer Karanja Kabage.
Kihika articulated her issues so well that she won with a landslide.
Martha Wangari, Gilgil MP
Wangari campaigned against Mathenge Nderitu, an incumbent, and beat him in the Jubilee nominations.
After the nominations, Mathenge ran as an Independent but he was still beaten.
This shows that women, just like men, can compete fairly and win when they show leadership.
Njoro MP
Njoro MP Charity Kathambi is another female politician who floored men during the 2017 elections.
Kathambi won the Njoro seat with a landslide after beating her closest challenger Kuria Kamau with a big margin.
Naivasha MP
Another female politician who beat men in elective politics is Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara.
These female politicians victory shows women can still win elective politicians if they demonstrate good leadership because that is what Kenyans want.
