Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o is ready to welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta when he visits the county on Thursday, the first tour since Kenya's fourth President was sworn in for a second term in office.
Nyong'o who before the famous handshake between Uhuru and opposition leader Raila Odinga on March 9th was one of the President's principal critics says the visit is a clear gesture of the Head of State's renewed efforts in uniting Kenyans and champion one path towards development.
Uhuru is expected in Kisumu on Thursday where he will preside over the launch of the Universal Health Coverage programme. He will be accompanied by Odinga.
"The people of the great county of Kisumu welcome the President H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E Raila Odinga to Kisumu on the occasion of national launch for the universal health coverage (UHC) slated for this Thursday 13th December, 2018 at Mamboleo Show Ground as from 9.am," the county chief said in a statement to the press on Tuesday evening.
Nyong'o is presently among Kenya's top performing governors and is expected to use Uhuru's visit to win national government funded projects as he positions himself for another election duel in 2022.
Meanwhile, Odinga has been calling on Nyanza region leaders to turn out in large numbers to welcome President Kenyatta to Kisumu.
