Anxiety has gripped both executive and County Assembly of Nyamira after Auditor General unleashed his troops following outcry on mismanagement of resources.
For months now, both the executive and the assembly have been on the receiving end with locals accusing EACC of taking bribes to clear those affected.
At least ten auditors have camped in the county even as a source privy to ongoing investigations said several anomalies have been detected in various departments over spending.
"There is panic all over and senior officers are on the run. None wants to face these auditors sent from Nairobi.
"Already, those who have been audited, anomalies have been detected and this could land someone in trouble. People are panicking, some are even pleading with the team to spare them," said the source who spoke in confidence.
Governor John Nyagarama cancelled reshuffling of Directors, saying that they had to allow auditing to be done.
"Audit had to be done before reshuffling. The govenor suspended any business to allow auditors do their job," Communication Director Kefa Miller said.
Among top audit queries is Sh379 million assembly block which has divided local leaders and Sh32 million prefab building by the ministry of public works.
