A Nyamira-based politician has pleaded with local musicians and comedians to consider forming a welfare association to boost their careers in the music and entertainment industry.
Wiper Party vice-chairman in Nyamira County Victor Swanya, while speaking on Friday during the burial of Okebiro O'mose at Enchoro village in West Mugirango, Nyamira County said local musicians and comedians have been facing difficulties in their careers due to lack of a strong welfare.
"It is high time upcoming musicians and comedians should form a welfare group which will help them any time they face financial problems. The welfare will also bring unity among the comedians and musicians thus making their work easier," he said.
Okebiro committed suicide, leaving many of his fans wondering why he did not get psychological help to help him navigate his depressive state.
Swanya further challenged elected leaders from the Gusii region to support upcoming talents.
"There are several talents our young people possess but due to lack of support from the leaders, the talents end up being wasted.
"It is the high time MPs and MCAs support youths with football, singing and comedy talents among others. The youth should make a living out of their talents instead of the youths venturing into alcohol consumption," he added.
