There is a likelihood that voters from Central Kenya may not back Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 State House bid, a political and governance analyst has said.
Arnold Maliba on Monday said Ruto's declaration on Sunday that no region owes his a dept in 2022 clearly shows the DP himself has sensed Mt Kenya region may not rally behind him during the next poll.
"There is nothing like a debt in politics," Maliba said during a political talk show o NTV.
"In politics, you gain what you can at a particular moment. It is upon him to return to the masses to seek for the presidential mandate."
Maliba said the only option for the former Eldoret North MP is to kick-start a campaign that will involve marketing himself to the voters in all regions of the republic and convince them that he is Kenya's best leader when President Uhuru Kenyatta exits power.
He said the DP also has the option of starting building alliances with like-minded leaders who he will rely on for his campaigns when 2022 beckons.
Maliba spoke less than a day after the DP said there is no one who owes him a political debt in 2022.
"There has been debate doing rounds on who owes who what. I want to remind leaders what Paul says in Romans 13:8; 'Owe no man nothing except the debt of love for one another," Ruto said.
There has been growing debate over whether Mt Kenya region will support Ruto in 2022 owing to the fact that he (Ruto) rallied Rift Valley voters to cast their votes for President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 ad 2017 general elections.
