Siaya Senator James Orengo was misquoted over his latest controversial remarks, Makadara lawmaker George Aladwa has confirmed.
The latter on Wednesday made remarks pointing at ongoing coalition talks between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
But speaking on Saturday, Aladwa who doubles up as a top ODM official revealed personally confronting the Senator over the remarks on Friday, adding that he said he was misquoted.
He said that Orengo told him that he never meant to refer to the 2022 general elections.
Instead, he said, he was speaking about the union between the two founded after Uhuru's truce with opposition boss and ODM chief Raila Odinga early last year.
"I spoke with him (Orengo) on Friday as I sought to find out the motive behind the said remarks and he told me he was misquoted.
He said that he only meant to reiterate his support for the peace currently enjoyed by the two sides after the handshake, hoping that it would exist until after 2022" said Aladwa.
He was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi Show Saturday morning.
The MP, also the party Chair for Nairobi county, added that he believes in Orengo and is convinced that he never intended to reignite political temperatures in the country.
However, he noted that though Kenyans and politicians have stressed on the need for political calm ahead of the 2022 general elections, the Senator committed no offence even if he meant the same thing he is denying.
"I also think that he never intended to send any political signals, but at the same time, he has every right to do so.
"We have seen other politicians campaigning for their preferred candidatures for the presidential seat anyway," he added.
