Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday announced that the government is set to connect 25,000 households with electricity in Kisii County.
Ruto while speaking at the Gusii Stadium said the government has already set aside funds for the projects slated for later this year.
"25,000 households will get connected with electricity in Kisii county alone before the end of this year. People in deep villages deserve to get electricity so that they can use to lit their homes and do business freely without any difficulties," he said.
According to Ruto, the new connection will help boost the economy since several local traders who have been closing business as early as 6 pm daily due to lack of lights will be operating until late night.
"Traders will have to extend operational hours because they will use electricity to provide lights for customers to freely buy commodities," noted Ruto.
Ruto also maintained that security will be beefed up because criminals who have been taking advantage of the darkness to terrorize residents.
